UNIOSUN Matriculates 3,000 for 2017/2018 Academic Session

Osun State University, UNIOSUN matriculates 3,000 as Vice-Chancellor admonishes students to remain disciplined and law-abiding through out their stay in the university

Osun State University on Wednesday, 28th March,2018 held its 11thMatriculation ceremony across all colleges as the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Labode Popoola advised the students to remain disciplined and law-abiding through out their stay in the university.

In his matriculation speechpresented across the colleges, the Vice-Chancellor described the matriculating students as fortunate as the university could only admit 3000 out of 6,865 candidates that applied to UNIOSUN this 2017/2018 academic session.

He congratulated the matriculating students, urging them to abide by the extant laws and procedures of the university, a breach of which would attract appropriate sanctions as contained in the students’ handbook and code of conducts.

The Vice-Chancellor said: “I feel highly elated to welcome you all to this matriculation ceremony, an annual event that officially marks the entry of newly admitted students to higher institutions of learning.

“This gathering, perhaps, is significant not just because of its statutory status, but a time for reflection for the fortunate candidates who were offered admissions from a pool of several qualified candidates.

“For the record, a total of 6,865 candidates applied to Osun State University thus 2017/2018 session, but only 3000 were offered admission having been found successful in the mandatory Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination(UTME) conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board(JAMB), and the screening conducted by the University.

“The matriculating students present in the hall today are likened to the proverbial saying, ‘many are called, few are chosen’.

Upon my assumption of duties as the third substantive Vice-Chancellor barely fifteen months ago, I envisioned  a state University that would be first among equals, most preferred, making significant contributions to the society, an efficiently run, self-reliant, sustainable institution and a force to reckon with among Universities globally; a truly 21st century University by the end of my tenure.

“Gladly, the University has continued to focus on her pursuit of excellence in teaching, research and service to society as enshrined in our vision. Currently, the University runs fourty-six (46) undergraduate programmes across the six campuses.

“All the programmes have been duly accredited by the National Universities Commission except one that will be mature for accreditation in November 2018. Our professional programmes have also been accredited by various bodies such as Council for Legal Education, Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, ICAN, COREN and many others.

“To sustain the current pace of development in this University, all hands must be on desk. As newly admitted students, you need to be reminded of the extant laws and procedures.

“This University has zero tolerance for indiscipline, indecency, cultism, any form of hooliganism, and corruption as contained in the matriculation oath. The rules are clear and any infraction, whatsoever, will attract stern penalties as itemized in the students’ handbook.”

He urged the matriculating students to be good ambassadors of the university, assuring them of adequate security across the campuses.

“The University is working around the clock to ensure maximum security on all our campuses. We however, plead that you should not hesitate to report any suspicious activities to the Provost, Dean, Head of Department, Dean of Student Affairs, Sub-Deans, and Security Officers attached to your campuses.

“While congratulating the matriculating students, I want to equally rejoice with the joyous parents and guardians who are here physically to witness the official entry of their wards into the University,” he said.

Allardyce exit saddens Infantino

Allardyce exit saddens Infantino       FIFA president Gianni Infantino has admitted to being “extremely surprised” and “very sad” at the affair that ended Sam Allardyce’s brief reign as England manager. “Of course I am extremely surprised. I am also very, very sad about what has happened, about what we are reading, that this is just the tip of the iceberg and that there might be other issues coming and other stories coming out,” Infantino said in an exclusive interview with AFP. “It is sad, it is sad for football, but of course I know that the English Football Association is looking into the matter and doing their own investigation, and will come to their own conclusions, so we should let those who do their job, do their job and then come with conclusions before commenting any further.” Allardyce, 61, was sacked last month after he made a series of embarrassing comments, notably in relation to loopholes ...
