Most students own internet enabled mobile devices, but not many of them use those devices for anything other than instant messaging, photography and general communication.

However, not many of those students use those devices for anything that is not related to instant messaging, photography and general communication.

After spending small fortunes on subscription, the returns they get is quite insignificant given the ignored beneficial purposes to which they can put those technologies into.

There are many app – free and cheap, that a student can easily download with direct positive impact on academic performance.

Many of these are available on most app stores and usable on the most popular OS used in most new devices.

Here are four you should definitely own:

DUOLINGO – this app will which is available for iOS and Android devices will help you learn another language very easily. With this, learning is easy and fun as you pick up on Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Irish, Dutch, Danish, Swedish, or even English.

EVERNOTE – this app, available for iOS, Android, OS X and Windows devices, is simply a digital version of your notebook, jotter, colander, schedule, and checklist all in one. Evernote has a function to let you collaborate with colleagues on notes (like assignments) remotely. It has a paid version which gives you offline access, more cloud storage space and email functionality.

WUNDERLIST – is a free to-do app that has iOS, Android, OS X and Windows versions. It will help you stay on top of what you need to get done every day. It lets you make multiple task lists, collaborate with other users on tasks/projects, as well as set reminders

RefME – is your personal librarian is available for iOS and Android devices. It helps you create citations or bibliographies by simply scanning a book’s barcode using your phone’s camera. The app will give the citation in all the standard formats.
