I don’t shake ladies’ hands —RSUST best graduate

Ogun State-born Ajumobi Falola leads the pack at the convocation of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, CHUKWUDI AKASIKE  reports FOR 24-year-old Ajumobi Yusuf Falola, gaining admission to the university was not an easy task and this perhaps explains why he sat for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination organised by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board twice. However, Falola’s two attempts before securing admission did not discourage him from graduating with a First Class from the Rivers State University of Science and Technology. At the RSUST’s 27th convocation, Falola shone like a star as he won three awards, including the overall best student prize. For Falola, who studied Petroleum Engineering, the academic accomplishment did not just come on a platter. He encountered difficult times, especially challenges bordering on finance as well as other socio-economic difficulties. Most discouraging of the challenges, he said, was not his modest...

Vice-Chancellor, LASU, Prof. John Obafunwa The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Lagos State University chapter has faulted the closure of the university allegedly on the orders of the Vice- Chancellor, Prof. John Obafunwa. The school management last Monday asked both workers and students to vacate the institution until further notice, citing the ongoing elections in the country as an excuse. But LASU-ASUU, in a statement obtained by our correspondent on Monday, claimed that the “forcible closure’ was illegal. The chapter Chairman and his Secretary, Dr. Adekunle Idris, and Dr. Wale Adeyemi, respectively signed the statement. According to them, the VC has no legal right to shut down the ivory tower. The action of the VC, they added, would disrupt the academic calendar of the institution. Parts of the statement read, “The union would like to state unequivocally that the open-ended recess announced for the sake of elections is not only unwarranted and disrupti...

Fani-Kayode The Buhari Support Organisations has called for the arrest of Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode, the Director, Media, Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organisation, for announcing unofficial results. The Director, Media and Information of the BSO, Dr. Chidia Maduekwe, made the call on Monday in Abuja at a news conference. The organisation claimed that Fani-Kayode had breached relevant sections of the Electoral Act by announcing on Sunday that the PDP was leading in the presidential election in 23 states of the federation. “We ask the security agencies to immediately arrest Fani-Kayode for breaching relevant sections of the Electoral Act which forbids any organ outside INEC from officially declaring election results. “His arrest for furthe...
