12-year-old Girl Wins Spelling Bee Competition In Lagos

A 12-year-old pupil of Araromi Primary School, Agege, Boluwatife Tijani, has emerged the winner of the 2015 Spelling Bee competition in Lagos State. Tijani, a Primary Six pupil, competed with 56 other contestants representing the 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas in the state in the competition held in Ikeja. Ten-year-old Iretiola Ifaniyi, a Primary Five pupil of Methodist Primary School, Ibese, came second while 10-year-old Jonathan Arowodu of Akesan Primary School came third. The winners received N150, 000, N100, 000 and N75, 000 respectively from the state government. Mrs Ronke Soyombo, Director-General, Office of Education Quality Assurance, said that the competition was aimed at developing the innate skills of pupils and students. NUC Approves Ondo State University of Medical Science

The  National Universities Commission (NUC)  has issued a letter of approval to the Ondo State University of Medical Sciences as the 40th state university in Nigeria. Executive Secretary of NUC, Professor Julius Okojie presented the letter of recognition to the Ondo state Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko. The NUC Scribe said the commission will also write the  Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB)  to include the new university on the list of universities candidates who seek tertiary entrance admissions can apply to. “I wish to congratulate the government of Ondo state for the establishment of Ondo State University of Medical Sciences. “With effect from the 22nd of April 2015 the Ondo State University of medical Sciences has been recognised by the National Universities commission as the 40th state university and 139th university in Nigeria”, the letter read. Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria (PCN) Inducts 59 DELSU Pharmacists

The Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria (PCN), on Friday, inducted 59 pharmacy graduates of the  Delta State University (DELSU) , Abraka.  Registrar to the council, Mr N.A. Muhammed, represented by Dr. Anthony Idoko, administered the oath on the new pharmacists, urging them to always uphold their ethics of the profession. Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor of DELSU, Professor Victor Peretomode, thanked the government for its consistent support to elevate the school in knowledge and facilities.  He offered an automatic employment to the best graduating student, Uche Nwankwo, who got his appointment letter at the ceremony to the admiration of guests and his colleagues. 125 First Class, as UNILAG Graduates 10,600 Students.

The  University of Lagos (UNILAG)  will issue various degree certificates to about 10,600 students during the  2013/2014 academic session Convocation ceremonies  scheduled to hold from 28th to 30th April, 2015. The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Rahamon Bello, who gave the information at the pre-convocation briefing said that 125 of the graduating students bagged First Class degrees. In a further break-down of the results, the VC said that another 1,664 students bagged Second Class Upper Division while 2,827 were in the Second Class Lower Division. Bello said that 963 others would be graduating in the Third Class Division; 90 with Pass degrees while 167 others would be under the unclassified degrees in Medicine and Pharmacy. He added that the institution would also be graduating 103 Doctors of Philosophy (Ph.Ds.), 4,330 with Masters’ degrees and 331 with Postgraduate Diplomas from its School of Postgraduate Studies.
